Julie Hughes is a senior policy advisor in the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. At DOE, she focuses on a variety of energy efficiency issues that range from strengthening healthy homes efforts when homes are weatherized, to enabling state and local entities to accelerate the adoption of energy efficiency to transform local markets. Prior to her work at DOE, Julie served as chief of staff for New York City’s energy policy department under the leadership of Mayor Bloomberg. She began her career as a consultant in PricewaterhouseCoopers’ environmental practice.

Joan W. Smith, MPA, is the executive director of the Rocky Mountain Education Center (RMEC) OSHA Training Institute at Red Rocks Community College (RRCC), in Lakewood Colorado. During Joan’s tenure at RRCC, her responsibilities have included grants development, strategic planning, accreditation officer of the college and instructional dean with the departments of Construction Technology, Industrial Science, Water Quality Management and Environmental Technology, and Renewable Energy reporting to her. Upon becoming the Executive Director of the RMEC in September, 2009, Joan has continued her responsibilities as instructional dean for the trade programs. This “mix” of credit and non-credit programs has lead to tremendous opportunities to blend safety training into the fastest growing degree programs at the college to include Solar PV and Thermal, Energy Efficiency, Weatherization, and Large Wind Turbine Maintenance.
Bruce joined BPI in May of 2011 and now holds the position of Chief Operating Officer. A 25-year veteran of the environmental certification and accreditation field, Bruce led multiple American National Standards Institute accreditation and certification committees in the review of ISO standards and approval of certification bodies. He most recently served as Vice President of Certifications for the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI), where he was responsible for the certification of buildings to the LEED ratings systems. Prior to joining GBCI, DeMaine founded Precision Preservation and Inspection (PPI), a consulting firm specializing in areas of ISO quality systems, strategic planning, business process improvement, environmental compliance and safety initiatives. Before launching PPI, DeMaine spent ten years as Director of Corporate QA, Facilities and Safety for NSF International, a public health and safety company located in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Bruce worked in family owned construction company for several years performing all the trades.
Matt has provided business insurance to clients and contractors for over 8 years. Matt also has experience in commercial construction industry working with large steel buildings such as Airport Hangers. Matt currently works with energy upgrade contractors around the country as well as training organizations and providers.
